Romans 12:2- And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
And do not be conformed to this world – Do not be conformed to this world, do not be one with the world, do not align your spirit with that of the world, do not align your thoughts with that of the world. That means there has to be something specific that sets you apart from the world. When you’re not conformed to something, you stand out; this standing out has to be noticeable.
But be transformed by the renewing of your mind – Furthermore, the renewing of our minds has to occur. Renewing of our minds? Renewing of our minds. We have to change the way we think, we have to change the way we respond, we have to change the way we act, we have to change our habits, our minds have to become a whole new place. It does not say adjust your mind. It does not say shift your mind slightly for the time being. It says renew your mind. And only then will we be transformed.
That you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God – So, 1. God’s will is good, acceptable and perfect and it is our duty as believers and Christ followers to prove that will. 2. Until the mind transformation occurs, we cannot prove the will of God. We cannot show the world what the will of God is. If we still think like the world, we cannot show the world who God is. If we still act like the world, we cannot show the world what God wants. If we still believe in the things the world believes in, we cannot believe in what God has asked us to believe in. Our minds have to become a new place, a place where God resides in order for us to start showing His will to the world.
I quite like The Message version: Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what He wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you. – Romans 12:2
I’m learning to go deeper into the word, to really take each word apart and try to understand the message behind it. I’ve watched the way people in the church I go to know can read a verse and immediately connect it to another verse or just find a way to apply it to life situations, and I love that. I’m in awe of that ability and I want to be blessed with it. I want to pick His word apart and find hidden meanings that transform me to another level of faith.
Have a blessed week.
