Hey friend! Though this post was written last year, it’s a great tool to reevaluate at the end of any year. So as 2018
creeps up more like rushes upon us, check out these 3 great posts and resources to help you prepare for the new year.
I stopped setting New Year resolutions a few years ago because I could never keep to them. I was never good at setting intentional new year goals.
However, I recognize that there’s something special about the New Year. New Year, New Beginnings and all that good jazz. I think it’s natural for us to want to make lifestyle changes during a time that we perceive as a clean slate.
A fresh start.
So today, I’m sharing 3 posts to help you set intentional New Year goals.
If you’re anything like me, your attention and memory are quite fickle. Which means you usually forget about your New Year Resolutions by the end of February, unless you’ve written them in really large, obvious print. And then pasted it on a wall somewhere where you’d see it daily.
One thing I did not do this year was write down my goals. I had big, dreamy plans but they were just that. Dreams.
I didn’t take the time to create a plan and turn those dreams into actionable goals that I could achieve, and so I failed miserably in achieving them.
I’m doing things differently for 2017.
I’ve already begun a process of reflection, prayer and reading the word to start creating my vision for 2017. I don’t want to make the same mistakes I made this year, next year.
Part of that reflection process resulted in the creation of an extremely valuable workbook for vision casting. Envisioning 2017.
Make sure you read all the way through to find out how you can get a free copy of Envisioning 2017 – despite the name, Envisioning 2017 is a great tool for vision casting at the beginning of any year, so you can use it as you prepare for 2018
Envisioning 2017 is a 20-page electronic workbook that will guide you through a strategic process of reflecting on 2017 of reflecting on and letting go of 2017. And beginning the process of casting your vision for 2018.
Why electronic? Well, if you’re anything like me, you hate wasting ink to print things out. So, Envisioning 2017 is fillable on a computer. Yup. No ink wasting.
Remember that we can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens us (Philippians 4:13). In that same vein, we can’t do anything without Christ who strengthens us. I hope that as you read through, these posts and resources will help you in the process of setting intentional New Year goals for a better 2017.
3 Posts to Help You Set Intentional New Year Goals
35 Spiritual Goal Ideas
In this very simple post, Kari provides 35 possible spiritual goals that you can set in the New Year. She says to pick just one or 2 but the list was so great, I honestly wanted to pick like 10!
But I knew that would overwhelm me so I didn’t. If you’ve been looking for goal ideas to strengthen your spiritual health, this list is definitely a good place to start. A few of the things on her list are:
- Read a book of the bible 50 times
- Participate in a weekly bible study group
- Write out every “I WILL” in the book of Psalms
- Start or continue a gratitude journal
- Memorize a life verse

How to NOT Make New Year Resolutions
Marva is like me in that she’s failed at New Year resolutions a few times.
She created a great 3 step process for setting her New Year goals. What I really like about Marva’s post is that she’s picking One Word for her New Year.
That one word will guide all her lifestyle choices in the New Year. I’ve come across the One Word phenomenon a few times, however, this was the first time I’d really read about it.
There’s also a pretty interesting all about one word, click here to read that post. The other 2 steps are creating a vision board and using Grace Goals. I really like the idea of a vision board. Remember earlier how I said I probably wouldn’t remember my new year resolutions unless they were on a wall somewhere?
Well a vision board is a really creative way to have your goals front and center so you’ll always be thinking about them.

Grace Goals is THE resource I have been most excited about this month.
It is a series of 5 mini-workshops that guides you through clarifying your desires, developing a plan for turning those desires into actionable goals, learning why grace is THE enablement you need to achieve these goals and recognizing and appropriating grace in your daily life.
A few nights ago, I spent 4 hours in prayer, reflection, and deep study in the Word to start planning my vision for 2017 and Grace Goals was instrumental in that process.
I bet you’re thinking “Ok, that’s great. How do I get the 20-page workbook?”
I created Envisioning 2017 (which you can use to prep for 2018 ) to be a complement to Grace Goals. It addresses some of the things I felt were missing from Grace Goals like a review of 2016 so you can learn from it. And a chance to set specific and achievable goals in various areas of your life.
You can get your copy of Envisioning 2017 for free if you invest in Grace Goals using my link here.
What I really like about Grace Goals is that Arabah has set it up with this major fact in mind: It is only by the grace of Father that we’re able to accomplish anything. And grace is the foundation of this mini-guide, with works being built upon grace.
Grace Goals allowed me to identify a major roadblock in achieving my goals this year. I was able to spend time reading what the bible had to say about that roadblock and I have to say, I was a bit shook.
It was like the Holy Spirit was saying to me: “Here are the consequences of your actions”.
I believe that you can also have this aha moment if you invest in Grace Goals. I wanted you to get the most out of Grace Goals which is why I created Envisioning 2017.
Grace Goals will guide you through reflecting on your desires and what God has to say about it and Envisioning 2017 allows you to get practical and strategic about setting goals in various areas of your life.
