“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” 1 Thessalonians 5:18. This was a message from Paul to the Thessalonians. He said this towards the end of his message to them as a part of his final instructions of what it means to live a Christ-centered life. Today I’m sharing a simple prayer of thanksgiving with you.
Give thanks in all circumstances.
Paul doesn’t tell them to only give thanks when things are going well. He doesn’t tell them to give thanks when they feel like it.
He says in all circumstances.
How hard is it for us to do that these days? When we live in a world that’s hell bent on telling us that we are not enough. That we don’t have enough. That we aren’t doing enough. I don’t know about you friend, but for me, I often get caught up the things that haven’t happened yet and forget the things that have happened.
Now only does Paul say to give thanks in all circumstance, but he follows it up with this is the will of God in Jesus Christ for you.
God wants us to thank Him always.
There’s something about thanking God regardless of what’s happening in your life that shows Him that you have faith in Him. There’s something about giving thanks when things are going all wrong that is extremely powerful.
Imagine taking a moment during those times when you’re feeling inadequate. During those times when your finances don’t make sense. When a loved one has just betrayed you. Imagine being able to step away from all that and just looking to Heavenly Father and saying “Thank you.”
I mean, how happy would that make Father? To know that you trust Him enough to say thank you when things are going wrong because you know He will eventually make it all right?
And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28
The fact of the matter is that we are human, and it is easy for us to sometimes forget that God has our backs. The important thing is being able to catch yourself during those moments and turning your heart back to God.
Today I’m sharing a prayer for thanksgiving that helps you focus on some of the simple things in life that we often forget we have only because of Father. I hope you’re blessed as you say this prayer.
Prayer of Thanksgiving
I thank you for this wonderful day that you have made. I thank you for my life and the lives of my loved ones. I thank you Father for your presence in my life. For the confidence I have in you and the plans you have for me. I thank for the immeasurable amount of love you have for me, and how comforting it is to know that your Spirit is always with me. I thank you Lord for all the big and small wins that I attain daily by the strength of your Spirit. Thank you for the things in my life that I take for granted sometimes. I thank you for a roof over my head, food to eat and clothes to wear. I recognize that these things are all a gift from you, and I’m ever grateful. May I develop an attitude of thanks in all circumstances Lord. I pray that I’ll continue to remember that all things work together for good. Thank you Father, I love you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
